MATCHUP TO WATCH
Broncos LB Von Miller and DE Elvis Dumervil vs. Raiders offensive tackles
The Raiders did something Sept. 30 only two other teams have done this season they held Miller without a sack. But they couldn't stop the other half of the Broncos' pass-rushing tandem Dumervil was in on 11/2 of Denver's three takedowns of Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer. Oakland tackles Khalif Barnes and Jared Veldheer draw the main responsibility for protecting Palmer, but offensive coordinator Greg Knapp who called both Denver rushers "elite" said the Raiders might have to keep in extra blockers to help. Dumervil and Miller have a combined 23 sacks, with Miller (15) gunning for his teammate's single-season franchise record of 17, set in 2009.
THREE KEYS TO GAME
The Raiders' running game has shown signs of life the past few weeks, something that should continue or improve with the return of Darren McFadden. If the Raiders can put together long drives, it keeps the ball out of the hands of Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
Too often this season the Raiders have had defensive lapses that have led to big plays. The Broncos have a big-play threat in receiver Demaryius Thomas, who is tied for first in the NFL with 17 catches of 25 yards or more.
The Raiders need to avoid costly turnovers such as the interception Sunday that set up the Browns' game clinching touchdown drive. Palmer has thrown eight of his 13 interceptions during the Raiders' five-game losing streak.
