Re "Pianist, composer, popular innovator -- he was a giant of jazz" (Page A1, Dec. 6): When Dave Brubeck journeyed to Sacramento on his 75th anniversary tour, I had the absolute pleasure of spending about 10 minutes one-on-one with him discussing his music, how it was received worldwide and some of the social issues he challenged. Brubeck's opinions were well grounded, thoughtful and persuasive and he treated me like a good friend.
From the time I acquired the breakthrough album "Jazz Goes to College" in the 1950's, he and the Quartet were icons with a universal, well-earned reputation. That memorable evening confirmed it all.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
