NFL ON TV

SUNDAY

DOLPHINS AT 49ERS

• Time: 1:05 p.m.

TV/radio: Ch. 13, 680, 1320

Line: 49ers by 10

Records: 49ers 8-3-1, Dolphins 5-7

The skinny: The 49ers have been uncharacteristically sloppy the last two weeks, endangering what was a huge lead in the NFC West. The 49ers had 21 penalties in those games, including eight times for offensive holding. They might get away with it again against the Dolphins, but those issues certainly need to be cleaned up before games at New England and Seattle. The key for Miami is finding a way to keep the 49ers' Aldon Smith in check; Smith has matched the franchise single-season sacks mark with 171/2, and Miami's starting left tackle, Jake Long, is out for the season.

COWBOYS AT BENGALS

• Time: 10 a.m.

TV: FOX40

Line: Bengals by 3

Records: Cowboys 6-6, Bengals 7-5

The skinny: Both teams are in playoff races even though both have had plenty of stumbles. Cincinnati has overcome a four-game slide with four consecutive wins, and the Bengals do seem a legit contender, with their defense having allowed just 42 points in the winning streak. Dallas confounds everyone, and if it could hold leads late in games, it might be atop the NFC East. The Cowboys trail the Giants by one game, but their last four victories are against Carolina, Cleveland and Philadelphia (twice), all last-place teams.

SAINTS AT GIANTS

• Time: 1:25 p.m.

TV: FOX40

Line: Giants by 5

Records: Saints 5-7, Giants 7-5

The skinny: New Orleans has won three in a row against New York, including two blowouts. And quarterback Drew Brees has 11 touchdowns, no interceptions and a 122.1 passer rating in four games – all victories – against the Giants in his career. But Brees was intercepted five times by Atlanta last week, and the Giants, with just a one-game lead in the NFC East, are in dire need of a victory with trips to Atlanta and Baltimore still ahead.

LIONS AT PACKERS

• Time: 5:20 p.m.

TV/radio: Ch. 3, 1320

Line: Packers by 7

Records: Lions 4-8, Packers 8-4

The skinny: Detroit has lost four in a row, including a 24-20 loss to the Packers three weeks ago, and the Lions' lack of discipline has cost them late in games. The Lions don't get after the passer as well as would be expected with the likes of Ndamukong Suh, Kyle Vanden Bosch and Cliff Avril on defense. Even worse with Aaron Rodgers on the other side, Detroit struggles in pass coverage. So even with Jordy Nelson likely sidelined and Donald Driver nursing a broken thumb, the Packers could fill up the scoreboard.

MONDAY

TEXANS AT PATRIOTS

• Time: 5:30 p.m.

TV/radio: ESPN, 1320

Line: Patriots by 3 1/2

Records: Texans 11-1, Patriots 9-3

The skinny: This could be the best Monday night game of the season, with the winner emerging as an AFC favorite. New England's offense has been unstoppable, outscoring opponents by 170 points. They've scored 430 points, 79 more than the Texans, who rank second. So expect a light-up-the-scoreboard affair, even though Houston ranks sixth in defense.
