Sacramento County supervisors on Tuesday will consider a candidate to head the Health and Human Services Department.
County Executive Brad Hudson has recommended Sherri Z. Heller for the position. Heller has more than 30 years of experience in health and human services, including several positions in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, according to a news release from Hudson's office.
Health and Human Services has had an acting director since earlier this year when Ann Edwards left to head the Countywide Services Agency, one of three county superagencies responsible for a number of departments.
According to the news release, Heller has also worked in the private sector, helping bring business solutions to human service agencies.
She would take over a department that has been beset by many problems, including widespread cuts in several agencies and extensive and long-term woes at Child Protective Services, which has been repeatedly criticized for its handling of child welfare cases.
