Citizen Hotel puts out this year's 'Naughty & Nice' list

The annual "Naughty & Nice" lists are out from the Citizen Hotel, with the Maloofs chided for misbehaving and the late Sacramento Bee columnist Rex Babin remembered on the good side of Santa's ledger.

The lists are displayed in the window of the hotel at 926 J Street. Amy Dempster, director of sales and marketing, notes that the hotel tries to continue the downtown tradition of creative holiday window displays - but with a political twist.

Here's the 2012 Naughty & Nice list

Naughty:

• Christian Grey -- The main character in this summer's steamy best seller, "50 Shades of Grey" made the list for his naughty red room.

• Facebook IPO -- The highly anticipated IPO was a bit of a bummer when it debuted this year.

• Lance Armstrong -- After years of fighting doping charges, the allegations were finally too much to overcome and he was stripped of his titles.

• Prince Harry -- The naughty prince had a bit too much fun in Vegas this summer.

• The Maloofs -- They haven't moved the team, but they haven't help the effort to bring a new arena to Sacramento either.

• Fiscal Cliff -- The deadline is looming, how naughty or nice will Congress be this holiday?

• General Petraeus -- The CIA Chief was very, very naughty. And lost his job.

• Roger Hernandez -- Another year, another California Assemblyman with a DUI. (Hernandez was found not guilty of drunken driving by Contra Costa County jurors on Aug. 27)

• Superstorm Sandy -- The massive hurricane hit the east coast last month and wreaked havoc.

• Elmo -- Poor Elmo is taking the heat over his puppet master who is tangled in an ugly lawsuit over inappropriate relationships with children.

Nice:

• Felix Baumgartner -- The daredevil set the world record for skydiving from space.

• Big Bird -- He took a beating in the Presidential Election and Americans came to his defense!

• Raley's -- This local company could have easily ended up on the naughty list this year, but came through for their employees in the end.

• The Kay -- The K Street Mall has a new name. How nice!

• Shuttle Endeavor -- The final space shuttle flew over Sacramento and captivated our citizens.

• SF Giants -- World Champions for the second time in three years!

• Ruhstaller Beer -- The resurrection of a Sacramento legacy has been embraced by the community.

• Gangnam Style -- This catchy song and its viral video has taken the world by storm and become the most watched You Tube video ever.

• Rex Babin -- The Sacramento Bee's last political cartoonist passed away this year, much too young. Many of his pieces hang in The Citizen Hotel.

Editor's note: The Bee, which has been running original editorial cartoons since 1857, when it first started publishing, announced in November that a new editorial cartoonist had been hired: Jack Ohman, formerly of The Oregonian in Portland, Ore.
