As I was heading home from work on Friday I passed by Will C. Wood public school just as the flag was being lowered. I was shocked and angry to watch this man let the U.S. flag pool on the ground at his feet as he unhooked it from the line. He then gathered it up in a ball in his arms and carried it inside.
Do we no longer teach respect for our flag in our public schools? Why would we allow someone who doesn't treat our flag with the respect it deserves to be the one to raise and lower it in front of a public building, especially one where we should be instructing children how to show respect for the symbol?
