Re "Obama is driving U.S. toward 'fiscal'" (Forum, Dec. 9): Syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker asks, "What do people know about the 'cliff'?" -- and she says not much. Well, nor does she.
For her to say that both parties are equally guilty is absurd. Since Day One of President Obama's first term, all the Republicans cared about was obstruction, distortion, and an expressed unwillingness to compromise on anything.
Parker continues her "argument" to say that House Speaker John Boehner has made good faith attempts at a deal. Again more nonsense.
After being confronted on everything he proposed (even ideas the GOP once stood for), Obama learned the stark reality that the republicans wanted one thing: for him to look bad, and nothing else.
For those of us who follow the workings of government and politics day in and day out, we know better. The GOP has done everything within its power to make government unworkable.
