Leading Off: Kings winning games is refreshing change

Reading time, two minutes …

• The Kings have won three games in a row, including a convincing 99-80 victory at Portland on Saturday, their first on the road this season. While no one is ready to pronounce all the Kings' problems fixed and start planning a parade, it's a refreshing change from a week ago, when the Clippers crushed them by 35 points. And, check the standings – the Kings are not in last place. With three road games in the next five days, can the Kings continue to share the ball? That would be a nice holiday gift for long-suffering fans.

• Saturday's knockout was more than just a stunning blow for Manny Pacquiao, it was a loss for boxing fans, too. Pacquiao's four fights against Juan Manuel Marquez were entertaining, but they weren't Pacquiao against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now that probably won't happen. Imagine if Muhammad Ali had not fought Joe Frazier or if Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran avoided each other throughout their careers.

• Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, so now what? Being the first freshman to win college football's biggest individual prize will be difficult for Manziel to top. A second (or third) Heisman Trophy? Only one player – Ohio State running back Archie Griffin – has won the Heisman twice, so the odds aren't in Manziel's favor. Here's hoping Johnny Football's freshman season isn't his best one.
