Political ads should not be primary information source

Re "Online ads no solution" (Letters, Dec. 9): Yes, it sounds like a great idea to use social media to advertise politically.

As a member of a generation that grew up with constant changes in technology, I am inclined to agree with Bryan Merica, who wrote that online political advertising is necessary "for our democracy to continue working."

However, when thinking about the lack of truth in political campaigns, political parties and groups pitted against each other, constantly trying to uncover dirt and expose the truth, I am disillusioned.

During election season political information is everywhere you turn: TV, radio, and print media. If voters don't get enough information from these sources, then maybe they are not interested enough to be bothered with voting or politics. Advertisement s from politicians should not be used as a primary source for voters; at most they should be used as a stepping stones to begin research about important topics.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.

• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
