Re "Was UC's logo fully flushed out?" (Editorials, Dec. 11): The new logo for the University of California merely confirms the university's transition from an institution of learning -- whose old logo featured a book and the motto "Let there be light"-- to a corporation engaged in chasing research dollars from the federal government and from corporations in order to keep its doors open.
Notice that the bottom half of the C is disappearing as it's flushed down the bowl.
Soon UC will be a private institution supported by research grants and tuition, as the state of California's contribution continues to be flushed away. UC is no longer a state-funded university; now it's just state supported (minimally).
