Re "'Cliff' talks teeter on new offers" (Page A8, Dec. 12): President Barack Obama wants the Bush-era tax cuts for high-income earners to expire. However, he also stated that the fiscal cliff is a complex issue that will take compromise; he is not advocating for one solution.
Historically, deficits soar when taxes on high-income earners decrease. Tax hikes should not be the only solution to the fiscal cliff -- but refusing to raise taxes and reap the $1.2 trillion benefit is unsound policy.
