The Sacramento City Unified School District is hosting a series of events to showcase its portfolio of middle and high school options before open enrollment next month.

Interested families can visit a school, observe teachers and students in classrooms and talk to administrators and current parents.

Open enrollment in Sacramento City Unified runs from Jan. 28 to Feb. 8.

Families who live within the district's boundaries can apply to enroll at middle and high schools not in their neighborhood zones.

Acceptance is based on availability.

Students must meet eligibility requirements for some programs, such as West Campus High School, Humanities and International Studies Program at C.K. McClatchy High School and John F. Kennedy High School's Program in America and California Explorations.

The district also has small specialized high schools, such as Health Professions High School and School of Engineering and Sciences.
