  • GAME AT A GLANCE

Granite Bay (12-3) vs. Long Beach Poly (12-3), 8 p.m.

Both teams have 11-game winning streaks after uncharacteristic 1-3 starts against tough competition while developing new starting skill players. Both teams also prefer to run and have played well on defense in the postseason while going a combined 10-0. Both coaches have won five section titles since 1999 – Ernie Cooper at Granite Bay and Raul Lara at Long Beach Poly – and both are seeking their program's first state title. Poly backs Manusamoa Lu'uga and Gerard Wicks each rushed for more than 1,000 yards this season, and UCLA-bound linebacker Jayon Brown heads a fast, physical defense. Granite Bay features backs John Cooley (1,556 yards, 17 touchdowns), Taft Partridge (789 and nine), fly back Tony Ellison (1,144 and 11) and quarterback Grant Caraway (1,762 passing yards, 27 touchdowns). Linebackers Beau Hershberger, Mason Cohen and Cameron Smith lead a defense that hammered St. Ignatius of San Francisco in the Northern California Regional Division I game.
