BERKELEY Doug McDermott had a season-high 34 points and nine rebounds with more than a dozen NBA scouts watching, and No. 16 Creighton increased its winning streak to four games with a 74-64 victory over Cal on Saturday night.
McDermott, who was averaging 22.7 points, outperformed Cal's Allen Crabbe in a matchup of the nation's top two scoring juniors. Crabbe, the Pacific-12 Conference scoring leader who was averaging 21.9 points, had only 14.
Crabbe missed his first 11 shots and didn't make his first basket, an eight-footer, until 16:53 remained.
The Bears (6-3) pulled within 46-43 on Crabbe's basket with 11:49 left. But McDermott hit the first of three consecutive three-pointers by the Bluejays (10-1) as they pulled away.
Cal's Justin Cobbs crashed into the basket support on a late layin and was down briefly, then came out holding his head. He finished with 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
