After a year-long search, UC Davis has hired former UC Berkeley associate head coach Ron Gould as the Aggies new head coach.
Gould, 47, replaces Bob Biggs, who announced his retirement prior to the 2012 season.
"Ron's got tremendous energy," athletics director Terry Tumey said after the formal press conference early Monday on campus, "and that energy is pretty electric. I think that will bode well for our university."
A former defensive back at Oregon, Gould has never been a head coach. He also has been an assistant at Portland State and Boise State. During his 16 seasons at Cal, he worked extensively with the running backs and is credited with the development of several future NFL players, among them Marshawn Lynch, Jahvid Best, Shne Vereen and Justin Forsett.
"There is a rich history at Davis," Gould said. "We want to bring it back."
