A program to provide Christmas gifts for homeless families has fallen victim to a sub for Santa who has failed to deliver.

Joe Ramos, community partnerships coordinator for the Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center, said 26 homeless families from the Mather Community Campus and Omega Project were adopted by an individual who appears to be a scam artist.

He said the individual apparently has a history of contacting organizations and making grandiose offers of support but failing to deliver on the promises.

As a result, Ramos said, the center has been left with a huge hole in its holiday donations a week before Christmas. The center is looking to the community for help.

Each year, the community assists in playing Santa to the homeless men, women and children in the center's programs.

Anyone wishing assist in providing Christmas gifts is asked to call Ramos at (916) 496-6426, or email
