Two El Dorado Hills businesses have joined a prominent U.S. Marine Corps war veteran to launch a line of hand-rolled cigars, with proceeds to support injured and critically ill members of the military.
Art of Cigars LLC, a cigar lounge at 2222 Francisco Drive, suite 470, and book publishing company Savas Beatie LLC are working with former Marine Gunnery Sgt. Nick Popaditch on the project.
Popaditch, 45, and his unit gained worldwide attention in the 2003 invasion of Iraq when they toppled a statue of Saddam Hussein in Firdos Square in Baghdad. A photograph of Popaditch in his tank's cupola, smoking a cigar with the statue in the background, earned him the nickname "The Cigar Marine."
The first two cigars released in the new line are "The Gunny" (a double-wrapped Torpedo) and "The Tanker" (a mild, spiced rum Corona).
