Leading Off: No Kings player is truly 'untouchable'

With the Kings mired in last place in the NBA's Pacific Division, some followers of the team think it's not too soon for basketball president Geoff Petrie to make major changes.

We wouldn't go that far after just 25 games, but with rumors swirling on the Internet, no Kings players are "untouchable" if the right deal comes Petrie's way.

DeMarcus Cousins? Tyreke Evans? Marcus Thornton? Jimmer Fredette? Aaron Brooks?

They're all available if Petrie can get equal value in return, though some are more untouchable than others.

If you're running the Kings, you'd hate to give up on Cousins so early in his career, despite his scowls, fouls and flapping jowls. He's a big who can, and should, dominate in the paint, and that's nearly impossible to replace.

Evans was playing well at his natural shooting guard position before injuring his left knee; Thornton is one of the Kings' best offensive players; Fredette hasn't been given enough time to show whether he can be a decent NBA player; and Brooks is the Kings' best point guard.

These five all have upsides, but with the team going nowhere, every player on the roster is on the market.

Waiting for the Maloofs – It's been four days since we invited Joe and Gavin Maloof to participate in a "live chat" on sacbee.com, and we're still waiting for an answer from the Kings owners. Stay tuned.

What to watch

NBA doubleheader, 4 p.m., TNT: There's no NFL, so check out Oklahoma City at Minnesota, followed by Miami at Dallas … but it would be more fun to watch the Thunder play the Heat instead.
