BOZEMAN, Mont. The Sacramento State women made eight of their last nine field-goal attempts and rallied to defeat Montana State 69-65 in the Hornets' Big Sky Conference opener Thursday night, according to Sac State's athletics website.
The Hornets (5-4) have won back-to-back games at Montana State (6-3) after going 2-14 in Bozeman since joining the Big Sky in 1996-97. The win was also Sac State's second straight in a Big Sky opener.
Montana State led 57-52 with 7:58 left in the game. Alle Moreno knocked down a three-pointer with 2:03 remaining, and Sac State retook the lead 64-60. Montana State twice closed the lead to two points, but Fantasia Hilliard (Sacramento High School) hit two free throws with 16 seconds left to put the game away.
Moreno had a game-high 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Kylie Kuhns added 14 points and Hilliard 10.
UC Davis 78, Southern Illinois 70 in Logan, Utah Corey Hawkins scored 20 points, going 12 of 12 from the free-throw line, and the Aggies (3-6) beat the Salukis (6-3) in the first round of the World Vision Challenge.
