LOS ANGELES Sydnee Fipps scored 22 points and Cortney French 20 to lead UC Davis to a 78-69 win over USC in the Women of Troy Classic on Friday night.
Fipps was 6 of 9 from the field, and French scored 15 points from three-point range.
Blair Shinoda scored 13 points, and Celia Marfone had 10 for the Aggies (4-4). Alyson Doherty had seven rebounds. Ariya Crook scored 18 points for the Trojans (3-6).
USC coach Michael Cooper was suspended for the game because of a secondary NCAA violation involving the use of an ineligible player in practice. Associate head coach Daron Park guided the team.
Montana 61, Sacramento State 60 at the Nest Will Cherry sank a free throw with 2 seconds left in the game, enabling the Grizzlies (6-4, 2-0 Big Sky Conference) to escape with a victory over the Hornets (6-4, 1-1).
Montana overcame a Sac State rally in the final 19 seconds. Sac State's Cody Demps hit a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to cut Montana's lead to 60-57, and another three-pointer, by Dylan Garrity, tied it 60-60 with 7 seconds remaining. Cherry then made one of two foul shots, and time ran out for Sac State.
Mathias Ward scored 16 points to lead Montana. Kareem Jamar scored 11 and Cherry 10.
John Dickson scored 15 for Sac State, Mikh McKinney 14, Garrity 12 and Konner Veteto (Placer High School) 10. Veteto also had 10 rebounds.
Utah State 73, UC Davis 61 in Logan, Utah Preston Medlin scored 23 points, including four three-pointers, and host Utah State (8-1) defeated UC Davis (3-7) in the World Vision Basketball Challenge.
Utah State also got four three-pointers from Spencer Butterfield, who finished with 14 points. TeNale Roland added 11 points.
Utah State was 12 of 22 from three-point range for the game.
UC Davis led by seven points midway through the first half and one at the break.
Ryan Sypkens (Franklin High School) scored 12 points to lead UC Davis. Corey Hawkins and Clint Bozner each scored 11, and Ryan Howley grabbed 12 rebounds.
