LOGAN, Utah Ryan Sypkens (Franklin High School) scored 23 of his career-high 28 points in the second half as UC Davis rallied for an 82-71 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday at the World Vision Challenge.
The Aggies (4-7) trailed by 10 points early in the second half before Sypkens scored on two three-pointers and a dunk to close out a 12-1 run and give them a 44-43 lead. Two more three-pointers from Sypkens and another from Tyler Les gave UC Davis the lead for good at 55-48 with 9:14 remaining.
Nicholls State (1-8) got 21 points from T.J. Carpenter and 14 from Amin Torres. Corey Hawkins scored 19 points for UC Davis.
UC Davis 71, Cal State Bakersfield 59 in Los Angeles Sydnee Fipps and Blair Shinoda earned all-tournament honors as the Aggies beat the Roadrunners at the Women of Troy Classic hosted by USC, according to UC Davis' website.
UC Davis improved to 5-4 overall with its third consecutive victory while Bakersfield dropped to 2-12.
Fipps, a sophomore, led the Aggies for the second consecutive game, scoring 15 points on a near-perfect 6-of-7 performance from the field.
Montana 82, Sacramento State 55 in Missoula, Mont. The Hornets shot just 25.6 percent from the field in losing to the Lady Griz in a Big Sky Conference matchup, Sacramento State reported.
Sacramento State (5-5, 1-1 Big Sky) led by as much as six points at 13-7 with 16:10 left in the first half, but Montana (8-3, 2-0) responded with a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 22-15 lead and never trailed again.
