For Catherine Odurokwarten, the gift of a laptop computer from Book of Dreams readers will help her in many ways as she and her daughter move forward in life.
"It is so nice," she said after receiving the laptop. "Thank you so much."
As she opened the gift, her 21-month-old daughter, Kylie-Marie Gonzalez, was at her side along with Diana Reveles, a case management counselor with the Sutter Teen Program.
The program serves pregnant and parenting teens throughout Sacramento County, helping them to pursue their educations while raising healthy children.
Reveles spent the past year helping Odurokwarten, who recently turned 20, to find her bearings as a single mother with limited financial means.
With Reveles' help, Odurokwarten enrolled in a pharmacy technician program at Charles A. Jones Career and Education Center this past summer.
On Dec. 17, she began an internship with a Safeway pharmacy.
The following day, she received the laptop, which came by way of a nomination by Reveles to the Book of Dreams.
The laptop will help with all aspects of her life and education, including keeping up with schoolwork and research, and building a resume for a career in the pharmacy world.
