A very wet and white Christmas is over.
Weather conditions are expected to begin clearing today in the Central Valley and in the mountains.
About an inch of rain fell in Sacramento on Tuesday, running off already sodden lawns into street gutters. Sacramento received about an inch of rain in the last 24 hours.
The rainfall total for the season stands at 172 percent of normal. And it has been a wet December: about 5.75 inches of rain has fallen downtown.
Forecasters are calling for a chance of showers today, mainly before 4 p.m. Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Thursday in Sacramento.
In the Sierra, chain controls are in effect today as snow continues to fall. One resort, Boreal Mountain, reports 15-18 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours.
Snowfall is expected to taper over the Sierra tonight with generally dry conditions expected on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
