Former Cal coach to head Jesuit water polo
Jesuit High School has named Boyd Lachance as its water polo coach.
Lachance joins the Marauders after spending 11 years on the coaching staff at Cal, where he served as the associate head coach the past 10 seasons.
Lachance, a former Pacific player, helped lead Cal to NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007 and has coached 51 NCAA All-Americans.
He served as an assistant coach for the United States squad at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzen, China, and coached the USA Men's Senior National B Team following the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
He will begin at Jesuit on Feb. 1.
Surging Cordova boys to host tournament
Cordova, which started the season 1-6, has rebounded to win its past five games behind the play of senior Troy Owens (21.8 points per game) and sophomore Jordan Roberson (16.8).
The Lancers will host their Cordova Christmas Classic today through Saturday. The Lancers open against Rosemont today at 7:30 p.m.
Today's other Cordova Classic games include: McClatchy vs. Encina, 3 p.m.; Christian Brothers vs. Wood of Vacaville, 4:30 p.m.; and Inderkum vs. St. Patrick/St. Vincent of Vallejo, 6 p.m.
Common Good releases matchups
The 12-team field for the Common Good Classic boys and girls showcase benefit Jan. 19 at Antelope has been released by tournament director Brad Swope.
In girls games, No. 16 Antelope plays Center at 11 a.m. and No. 9 Del Oro faces No. 5 St. Francis at 2:30 p.m.
In boys games, No. 16 Davis plays Valley Christian of Roseville at 12:30 p.m., Foothill faces Franklin at 4 p.m., Center takes on Whitney at 6 p.m., and No. 5 Antelope plays Bella Vista at 7:30 p.m.
Three from area named section model coaches
Michael Morris, Kingsley Claudy and Jill Tooker were among six coaches selected as Sac-Joaquin Section Model Coaches for 2012-13.
Morris is a football coach, track (throws) coach and athletic director at Rio Linda; Claudy coaches boys and girls volleyball at Monterey Trail; and Tooker is girls and boys tennis coach at Del Oro.
Each was selected for their teams' success, their impact as mentors and for service to their communities.
Six area football teams finish in NorCal top 10
Six area teams finished among the top 10 in NorCalPreps.com's final Northern California football Top 20 rankings.
Folsom was ranked No. 2 behind De La Salle of Concord, the team that beat the Bulldogs in the inaugural CIF Northern California Regional Open Division game.
Division I State Bowl champion Granite Bay was No. 3, Franklin No. 4, Oak Ridge No. 5, Elk Grove No. 9 and Burbank No. 10.
