Ross Hammond

What: Electric guitarist and composer Ross Hammond takes the spotlight at the Naked Lounge. The Sacramento musician describes his music on his website as "rooted in jazz and folk and rock and soul, and then it's heavy on the improvisation." You can hear his original works at his show. Jocelyn Medina opens.

Leave it to beavers

What: Kids can check out the beaver tree in the Effie Yeaw nature area as part of this special weekend program. The teeth marks on the tree show that some eager beavers came for a visit. Also up for close examination will be a skull with orange front teeth and a water-resistant pelt. All ages are welcome at this learning event.

When: 10:30 a.m.

Where: Effie Yeaw Nature Center, inside Ancil Hoffman Park, California Avenue and Tarshes Drive, Carmichael

Cost: Program is free. There is $5 per car daily parking fee to get into Ancil Hoffman Park

"Peter Pan"

What: Cathy Rigby just can't stay out of Neverland. The former Olympic gymnast returns as Peter Pan in this new Broadway touring production. Rigby sprinkles pixie dust and takes the Darling children on a magical journey. Glenn Casale, California Musical Theatre artistic director, directs.

When: 7:30 p.m. today , 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"The Gift of the Magi"

What: It's the closing weekend for "The Gift of the Magi," part of B Street Theatre's Family Series. O. Henry's classic tale of sacrifice is adapted for children by playwright Jerry Montoya. Cuddly creatures scramble to find the perfect gift for each other. This play is recommended for children 5 and older.

When: 1 and 4 p.m.

Where: B3 Stage, 2727 B St., Sacramento

"Madeline's Christmas"

What: It's also the closing weekend for "Madeline's Christmas." Join 12 little girls in two straight lines and their teacher, Miss Clavel, in this family musical. When everyone comes down with the flu – except for Madeline – that's when the Christmas magic begins.

When: 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Where: Sutter Street Theatre, 717 Sutter St., Folsom
