Night Life: Pizza, pasta and more at Mary's Pizza Shack

Mary's Pizza Shack

711 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville

(916) 780-7600 Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Happy hour: 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 p.m.-close daily

Mary's signature drinks, including a punch, blueberry cosmo, raspberry lemon drop and bloody Mary, are $5.50.

Beers are $3 per pint and $4.25 for a 22-ounce, and premium wines by the glass are $2 off. Well drinks are $3, and all appetizers except the seasonal selection are half off. Appetizers are about $4, with options such as calamari, garlic fries and buffalo wings.

Pizzas are full price, but happy-hour beers and a $20 to $25 made-from-scratch large pizza still amounts to a deal.

The vibe: This family-oriented restaurant feels cozy from the moment you enter. Saucepans dangle from lamps and other kitchenware-inspired decorations help give the place the feel of home.

From the pizza bar, you can watch pizza dough being tossed in the air. Perpendicular to the pizza bar is the drinks bar, which faces two flat-screen TVs and the restaurant's brewery.

Outdoor seating is available.

Signature drink: For $5.50, try the Mary's punch or the Island of Ischia iced tea. The punch is made with Chambord, Southern Comfort and cranberry and pineapple juices for a simple, light cocktail.

The Island of Ischia iced tea is a sweeter Long Island iced tea, with gin, vodka, rum, cranberry juice, sweet and sour and amaretto. The name comes from an island off the coast of Italy where the family of the restaurant's founder, Mary Fazio, is from. The restaurant Fazio started in 1959 as a 600-square-foot space in Sonoma County has grown to 20 restaurants.

Five beers are now available from the in-house brewery: pale ale, India pale ale, red amber, hefeweizen and the seasonal Schultzy's Oktoberfest.
