Re "Utah teachers answer call to arms" (Page A1, Dec. 28): Why give unbalanced media attention to small groups of extremists?
The firearms industry is trying to scare teachers like myself into carrying guns to school, but it is not making much headway except with a handful of individuals in Utah.
The Utah Office of Education thinks arming school teachers is a horrible idea, and most Utah districts would prohibit guns on campuses if state law allowed. However, the headline suggests that Utah teachers are answering some kind of general call to arms.
Making a sensational story out of this just contributes to a climate of fear, a climate which is enormously profitable for the firearms industry and the gun lobby.
