Classical ballet

What: The Moscow Classical Ballet will perform the holiday favorite "The Nutcracker" at the Three Stages Performing Arts Center in Folsom. The troupe, one of three ballet companies supported by the Russian government, has performed in more than 30 countries.

Library swap

What: Is your media library out of date? Tired of watching the movies you've had on the shelf for years? Then head on over to the Sacramento Central Library's book, CD and DVD swap meet to trade your stuff. Spokesman Don Burns said the swap meet is the brainchild of a library staffer who thought it would be a good way for film, book and music lovers to reinvigorate their collections and to mingle with people with the same interests. The library will give attendees "Central Bucks" for their items, which can be used to trade with others.

When: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Early celebration

What: Families can learn about New Year's festivities from around the world through live music and dance performances at the Crocker Art Museum Gallery. Performing will be the Golden Turtle Lion Dance Association, Non Stop Bhangra, Água de Beber Capoeira, storyteller-juggler Izzi Tooinsky, and the City of Sacramento Pipe Band. Participate in a danceathon hosted by the Sacramento Ballet and enjoy hands-on creative activities and a rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" by the handbell choir Bel Tempo Ringers.

New Year's fireworks

What: Sacramento will ring in 2013 with a New Year's Eve Sky Spectacular in Old Sacramento. There will also be children's programming, live music, dinner specials, hot food and drink vendors and street entertainment.

Roll into 2013

What: Roller King will host a canned food drive to benefit the Placer Food Bank. Admission price includes skate rental, pizza or hot dog, drink, games and a midnight balloon drop.
