Allison Donecker lost track of the time around New Year's eve. It's understandable.
She was busy giving birth to the first baby of the new year 2013 in the Sacramento region.
The 31-year-old mother gave birth to John Mitchell Donecker at 12:20 a.m. at the UC Davis Medical Center. Little John weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces at birth and was 19.5 inches long.
"I was focusing on breathing through the contractions," she said. "I was more focused on the pain. I really wasn't worried about the time."
The mother entered the hospital expecting to have her labor induced. However, the labor occurred without the need of drugs.
When midnight rolled around, nurses and other staff started cheering. The mother wondered what the excitement was about.
Big brother, Jackson, 2, on Tuesday was getting used to another member of the family, but honestly he seemed more interested in his toy car and ice cream.
The Tracy couple met three years ago at Sacramento International Airport while both were working on construction of the new terminal. They came to UC Davis for "the excellent care," said 38-year-old father Brian Donecker.
"We didn't care about the time, we just wanted the perfect, healthy baby," said Allison Donecker.
