Re "Should newspapers start phasing out editorials?" (Stuart Leavenworth, Dec. 30): Calling for an end to editorials or to election endorsements is to call for an end to advocacy.
Advocacy helped bring an end to slavery. Advocacy helped women get the vote. Advocacy helped pass civil rights in the 1960s. These are three prominent, obvious cases. There are countless more. Society needs more communication and education about the issues of the day, not less.
