Allison Donecker lost track of the time around New Year's Eve. It's understandable.
She was busy giving birth to the first baby of 2013 in the Sacramento region.
The 31-year-old mother delivered John Mitchell Donecker at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday at the UC Davis Medical Center. Little John weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces at birth and was 19.5 inches long.
"I was focusing on breathing through the contractions," his mother said. "I was more focused on the pain. I really wasn't worried about the time."
Donecker entered the hospital expecting to have her labor induced. However, the labor occurred without the need for drugs.
When midnight rolled around, nurses and other staff started cheering. The mother wondered what the excitement was about.
The baby's big brother, Jackson, 2, on Tuesday was getting used to another member of the family, but honestly he seemed more interested in his toy car and ice cream.
Donecker and her husband, Brian, 38, met three years ago at Sacramento International Airport while both were working on construction of the new terminal. The Tracy couple came to UC Davis for "the excellent care," Brian Donecker said.
"We didn't care about the time (of birth). We just wanted the perfect, healthy baby," said Allison Donecker.
