Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins: A way with wordsLoading

DeMarcus Cousins has never denied being an emotional player. He didn't deny being fined either, but disputed it was a $5,000 fine for a run-in with training staff, as reported by AOL. He also said he has no issues with any players or coaches with the Kings.

"I have no issues with nobody on this team, no coach on this team. ... I have my rookie frustrations. It's a hard process to go through. You do get frustrated, but that's everyone, even the vets."

The rookie lashed back and smart-mouthed his coach, which got him thrown out of practice. He said later he reacted out of frustration.

"It was a good lesson for me, I'm mad and I'm frustrated about losing, and in my opinion, I think different strategies should be in the game. ... But I was being selfish. I'm a big part of this team, and coach (Paul) Westphal has been saying it. I've been terrible. It's the truth."

Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie had a clear view of Cousins making a choking gesture at Warriors guard Reggie Williams after Williams missed the first of three free throws. Petrie was not amused.

"It was immature," Cousins said. "I was caught up in the game and let my emotions get the best of me and shouldn't have done it."

The Kings announced they would "impose an appropriate fine" on Cousins for his role in a postgame altercation with teammate Donte Greene.

"I wish to apologize to my teammates, the Kings' organization and Kings fans for my role in an unfortunate altercation between teammates," Cousins said in a statement. "I accept full responsibility for my actions and know that I must keep raising my standard of professionalism to be my best and a great player in the NBA."

Responding to Philadelphia 76er center Andrew Bynum's observation that Cousins would be happier on another team.

"Sacramento is where I want to be. I want to bring the organization back and start back winning. I love the city of Sacramento. That's where I want to be. End of story. " Cousins said.

The National Basketball Players Association will appeal the NBA's two-game suspension of Cousins. Cousins was suspended for returning to the court to confront San Antonio Spurs television analyst Sean Elliott about comments Elliott made about him during Friday's game.

"Despite believing the penalty unwarranted, I want to apologize to the Sacramento Kings, our fans and especially to my coaches and teammates for this distraction of our goals. ... As a leader of the team, I have to make the best decisions so my teammates can count on me. I am committed to continued growth and being the best player I can be."

Cousins, who was called for his second technical foul and ejected in the third quarter of the Kings' win over Utah, said Monday he said nothing inappropriate and it was referee Gary Zielinski who was out of line.

"The referee cursed at me. ... He told me to go (expletive) ask the other referee (about the first technical foul). I was going to say something back, kept my cool and walked away and still end up with a technical. So I still don't understand."

"I've been terrible. ... We're losing. I don't feel like I made improvements from last year. I really don't have any confidence at all. I'm just trying to think my way through it, but right now, I'm not finding anything."

Dallas Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo was upset that Cousins caught him with a shot to the groin area in the second quarter of the Kings' loss. Cousins said after the game and reiterated after practice Tuesday that he didn't do it on purpose.

"In slow motion, it looks like I did it on purpose. ... But you look in real speed, you see what happened. Of course it's gonna get thrown out there that I did it on purpose."

Cousins also exchanged expletives with Dallas coach Rick Carlisle during Monday's game.

"We made a run (in the third quarter). ... I started clapping, and the man said, 'Eff off.' I said, 'Eff you, ' and that was it. And I still got scrutinized like I did something wrong."

Cousins was ordered to remain in the locker room after a halftime verbal altercation with coach Keith Smart on Friday night at Staples Center while facing the Clippers. Smart and Cousins got into it verbally at the end of the first quarter.

"What happens in the locker room stays in the locker room but I was wrong. ... Don't talk back. That's the thing. I shouldn't have responded back. Should have accepted what was said and stayed quiet. ... I messed up. I'm apologizing to all my teammates for it, for responding the way I did, and we'll move on from it. ... I grow from all of my mistakes."
