Rancho Cordova-based medical equipment firm ThermoGenesis Corp. said today that it has sold its ThermoLine plasma freezer and thawer product line to global medical equipment manufacturer/distributor Helmer Scientific based in Noblesville, Ind.
The transaction involved an undisclosed amount of cash, received in the final quarter of 2012.
It was the second significant sale in six months. Last year, ThermoGenesis received a $2 million cash payment from Tokyo-based Asahi Kasei Medical Co. Ltd. to purchase the local company's CryoSeal Fibrin Sealant System wound care product line.
CryoSeal makes a surgical wound sealant from a patient's own blood.
"As was the case with our divestiture of the CryoSeal product line in mid-2012, this transaction is part of our long-term strategy to focus on our core business of developing enabling technologies for the stem cell regenerative medicine market," said Matthew Plavan, CEO of ThermoGenesis.
Plavan said proceeds from the latest sale "will be used to fund market development programs for our cord blood and bone marrow stem cell processing and storage offerings."
