Re "Obama eases door open for immigrants" (Page A1, Jan. 3): I voted for President Barack Obama twice without regret. But his continual easing of rules to accommodate more illegal immigrants is one-sided reform. Various amnesty programs for deserving segments of the illegal immigrant population are all well and good, but reform has to be balanced by measures that prevent future illegal immigration.
We must repeal the antiquated 1868 citizenship birthright amendment prospectively with a one year notice. If you remove the inducements of anchor babies and employment, you'll reduce future illegal immigration to a trickle. And who would suffer as a result? No one except for future illegal immigrants and birth tourists.
I implore all who read this letter to contact your representatives and demand that we establish and enforce new laws, and enforce existing laws that prevent future illegal immigration.
