Re "County must get out of development biz" (Stuart Leavenworth, Dec. 16): The Cordova Hills project offers the Sacramento region a rare academic and economic opportunity by setting aside 200-plus acres for a four-year college or university.
Our Los Rios Community College District, the second largest in California, is educating more than 80,000 students every semester. Most of them want to transfer to a four-year program. Sacramento State University currently serves 28,000 students and cannot accommodate everyone who wants to attend.
The Cordova Hills project offers an opportunity to expand access to a four-year college within the Sacramento region. As a lifetime resident of Sacramento with more than 50 years in academics, I support and encourage the acceptance of the Cordova Hills project with this much needed opportunity.
