Re: "S. F. lawmaker's bill aims to end discrimination against homeless" (Page A1, Jan. 4): Assemblyman Tom Ammiano has proposed legislation that would allow the homeless to camp, panhandle, and urinate on public land.
Such activities have proven so onerous that even extremely liberal San Francisco has taken steps to ban them. Attorney and homeless advocate Mark Merin is quoted as saying "homelessness is a condition, it's not a voluntary choice."
Apparently the same can be said for bad ideas emanating from California lawmakers.
