Re "Washington ducks `cliff'--House OKs fiscal deal" (Page A1, Jan. 3): As a Democrat in Congressional District 7, I want to thank Rep. Dan Lungren for siding with the middle class by being one of the Republicans who made the vote to resolve the fiscal cliff bipartisan.
Lungren as an outgoing congressman could very easily have voted with his party and maintained his pledge to Grover Norquist. He would have suffered no consequences at the polls. However, as his last act in the Congress of the United States, he listened to the needs of everyday Californians and United States citizens trying to figure out how to pay rent, buy groceries, and gasoline for needed transportation all from the same dollar. A sincere thank you, Dan.
