Re "Old Sac shooting suspect booked; couple also face charges" (Our Region, Jan. 6): Carlito Montoya, the alleged New Year's Eve shooter, wanted to escape the bad streets of Oakland. But he carried the evil within him to Sacramento, and now two good people are dead and our city and thousands of citizens lost their wonderful New Year's Eve celebration.
His family says he wanted to turn his life around and blame the bad streets for his behavior. Instead, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. Some turnaround. It would have been better if his mother and brothers had taught him that you don't turn a bad life around by taking a loaded gun, a bad attitude and your violent friends into a bar.
