Leading Off: We know Smith can beat Pack; can Kaepernick?

This, that and the other thing:

• This much we know: With playoff-seasoned starter Alex Smith at quarterback, the 49ers can beat the Green Bay Packers.

This much we don't know: if half-season starter Colin Kaepernick can quarterback the 49ers to a victory over the Packers in a playoff game in San Francisco.

If the 49ers rely on Kaepernick to win a quarterback duel with Aaron Rodgers in Saturday evening's NFC divisional playoff game, they'll lose badly. Rodgers likely will throw for 300 to 400 yards.

But just as it was with Smith in Week 1 in Green Bay, it'll be up to the 49ers' defense to keep Rodgers from making big plays.

• Former Kings Vlade Divac and Mitch Richmond, along with Sacramento Mayor and 12-year NBA veteran Kevin Johnson, on Monday were named to the 2013 ballot for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Of the three, only Richmond won an NBA title, riding out his final season on the bench in 2002 with the Lakers.

If there were a HOF for flopping, Divac not only would already be a member, he'd be the president.

• The Giants' second World Series trophy tour in three years begins today at City Hall, 915 I Street, from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

Fans can get an up-close look at – and take photos of – not only the 2012 trophy but the 2010 trophy as well.

Wonder what the folks in Detroit are doing this afternoon?

• Rumors have the Kings sending DeMarcus Cousins to the Celtics for backup players. While it would be nice for the Kings to get rid of their headache, the asprins in return must be of equal value.
