Re "Big plans keep rolling as feds give $135 million for light-rail link in south area" (Page A1, Jan. 8): I am thankful for the leaders who have fought for light rail in our region.
Light rail has so many positives that outweigh the cost: cars off the highways leading to improved air quality; connecting outlying suburbs to downtown Sacramento; independence for the aging who no longer can drive, and for young people who do not drive.
This article indicates the cities who have supported this are improving public transportation and are aware of the economic benefits of the investment. I have spoken at Elk Grove city council meetings urging them to pursue light rail.
Isn't it disgraceful that the second most populated city in the county chooses to pass on light rail? It may be proposed, but isn't planned.
