Re "Assembly restricts press access" (Capitol & California): The California Legislature is teetering on the edge of irrelevancy, and now Assembly Speaker John A. Perez proposes a dumb rule further restricting reporters' access to Assembly members.
Supposedly this enhances "decorum."
What it enhances is the Legislature's reputation for idiocy. When I was a Capitol reporter, we had access to legislators in the back and the sides of the chamber. The California Legislature then had a reputation as one of the best in the nation. See anything in that, John?
