Re "Ammiano defends his bill" (Letters, Jan. 8): God bless the homeless. However, my empathy wanes when I am continually asked for money outside restaurants, on street corners and at intersections.
The damage being done to the American River Parkway, for which taxpayers foot the bill, is significant. It's disgusting trying to use stairways in parking garages downtown because of the trash and urine in those stairways.
Would a "bill of rights" for homeless people find them employment or other social programs that could decrease homelessness? It sounds more like an attempt by legislators to cover their guilt and look progressive while changing nothing.
