Re "Pregnancy centers are needed" (Letters, Jan. 9): Letter writer Mary Catherine Seri needs to recheck data regarding abortions and birth control. Recent studies, as reported by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, found no causal relationship between abortions and breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute and the World Health Organization concur with these findings. Secondly, Seri states that birth control pills are carcinogens. On the contrary, according to the Lancet, the oral contraceptive pill has been shown to have a protective effect.
