Re "UC Davis suspends prof from lab work" (Page A1, Oct. 7, 2012): I have been very saddened to see Dr. Ebenezer Yamoah unfairly blasted for irregularities that took place in his laboratory, some of which have been misinterpreted.
I worked very closely with him as a graduate student. He always holds the highest standards with regard to any procedure, and has very high expectations for anyone with whom he interacts. He has inspired hundreds of students to strive to become the best.
Researchers are generally known to sacrifice many aspects of their lives in dedication to their work, with goal of bringing better lives to patients. Yamoah is uniquely selfless and his dedication to research is unmatched.
UC Davis would not be a cutting-edge research institute without visionary investigators such as Yamoah. I wish the administration and public would not jump to prejudicial conclusions when honest mistakes are made.
