Re "He just said `no' to `cliff' solution" (Dan Morain, Jan. 6): I am ashamed to be a resident in Tom McClintock's district. His vote against the fiscal cliff is only the latest in a litany of votes contrary to the best interests of his constituents.
Fighting to maintain tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans is a disgrace. His refusal to use his chairmanship of the House Water and Power Subcommittee to repair the levees that are so crucial to this area's survival is another example of his working against his district.
McClintock believes his role is to shrink government to the point where it only provides a military. He doesn't recognize the government's responsibility to its citizens, and he sees no federal role in any of the social services upon which we depend. Balance the budget is his rallying cry, and the harm this would create for his constituents is the last thing he worries about.
