Re "Tom McClintock just said 'no' to cliff solution" (Dan Morain, Jan. 6): The Bee and the left just don't get Tom McClintock. Dan Morain says Tom has ignored his constituent's interests. Has it ever occurred to McClintock's detractors that he's principled? More taxes cannot solve the problem.
How about insisting everyone have skin in the game by encouraging self reliance and doing more with less. Some ideas: Cut all budgets to 2000 level; reduce entitlements and shorten unemployment benefits; delay until better times expensive projects like the bullet train; and cut business taxes to encourage companies to move and grow here.
My multi-national employer has forced cutbacks every year since 2000. Cuts have forced me to do much more with less. As a result we're financially stronger that any of our competitors. Go figure.
