Re "He just said 'no' to 'cliff' solution" (Dan Morain, Forum, Jan 6): It appears that Rep. Tom McClintock, the congressman for Placer and El Dorado counties, is a taker and not a maker. Federal taxes pay his salary but he does not use his position as the chair of the House Water and Power Subcommittee to help obtain funding needed to rebuild levees and to prevent flood damage.
In addition, McClintock does not appear to favor federal assistance for a flood disaster. On Jan. 4, McClintock voted against a bill to provide federal funding for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. When California next needs federal assistance to deal with a major flood, earthquake or fire, one can only hope he is a hypocrite, and that he will support federal assistance for Californians in need.
