• FRUITS AND FLOWERS

The Exploration Center kicks off its series of monthly gardening workshops with three in one day, all devoted to fruits and flowers.


• WINTER BIRDS IN DAVIS

Where: Room 146 Environmental Horticulture, UC Davis

On the Pacific flyway, Davis annually is winter home to thousands of feathered visitors. During this presentation, see photos of some of these winter birds and learn more about them. Then, take a guided walk while looking for birds in the arboretum.


• WINTER CARE WORKSHOP

Where: Fair Oaks Horticulture Center, 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks

Sacramento County master gardeners will demonstrate pruning techniques, tool care and selection, composting and other winter tasks. Have a garden dilemma? Bring a sample in a sealed plastic bag for identification and diagnosis.

• SACRAMENTO ANTIQUE FAIRE

A favorite for treasure hunters, this event starts the new year in a new location on Front Street (just south of Old Sacramento) near the California Automobile Museum. Find more than 300 vendors and a wealth of vintage merchandise.


• CITRUS: SUNSHINE OF WINTER

The UC Master Food Preservers show how to make the most of oranges, lemons, grapefruit and other citrus as well as how to preserve it for enjoyment year round.
