Re "Huell Howser had zest for life" (Letters, Jan. 11): I cannot remember a death of someone I actually had never met causing me to shed tears and to feel so sad, really sad.
One other death, that of President Jack Kennedy stunned me and caused me such sadness, but for someone who was in my home almost weekly for so many years like Huell Howser, I felt I really knew him. He was all TV should be and could be were we to have more like him.
I am a faithful PBS watcher and will miss Huell every time I hear the song, "California Hear I Come."
I learned more about California from this man than from any other source. What an absolute shame to lose him.
California, and television has lost a valuable human being. He was "Amazing" and definitely a fine example of California's Gold. Huell you were loved by so many of us.
