Re "More warming scaremongering" (Letters, Jan. 15): The letter cites an October 2012 National Geographic article asserting that Antarctica sea ice is the "largest, thickest ever." I found this impossible to believe, so I checked my copy of that magazine.
National Geographic News of Oct. 13 reports that Antarctic sea ice was growing at a slow rate about one percent over last year "not nearly enough to offset melting in the Arctic." The Antarctic is cooler than the rest of the world, so it is warming but not as fast as other places. We have a warming world and a cold Antarctica and as National Geographic reports, "the difference between the two is increasing." Overall, the Antarctic is losing continental ice.
That letter is not telling the whole truth, and the title for the letter didn't help.
